As of July 16, 2025, part of Terminal 3’s Departures Lobby closed for construction while the F1 Security Checkpoint and ticketing counters remained operational. Beginning July 28 through October 17, 2025, the post-security connector from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3 closed nightly from 11:30pm to 3:45am.

The $2.6 billion Terminal 3 West Modernization project advanced, renovating 650,000 square feet, adding seismic retrofits, expanding security, and creating 200,000 square feet of new space for food, beverage, and retail. REAL ID became required for domestic flights May 7, 2025.

Two new sit-down restaurants open in Terminal 1 in early 2025. Taste of the City begins operation during the first quarter of the year as a casual sit-down option for passengers.

Balboa Café also opens in the first quarter of 2025 as a sit-down dining venue within Terminal 1, providing another food service addition for travelers. Both restaurants debut as part of scheduled construction and development phases in the terminal’s ongoing upgrades.

From July 28 to October 17, 2025, the post-security connector between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 at San Francisco International Airport will be closed nightly from 11:30 pm until 3:45 am, Monday night through Friday morning.

This temporary closure is scheduled as part of ongoing construction activities affecting the connector’s accessibility and operations during those specified nighttime hours.

In 2025, San Francisco International Airport’s Terminal 3 experienced multiple closures beginning mid-July. On July 15, portions of the departures lobby and bag claim areas were closed, with passengers rerouted around impacted spaces.

From July 16, a larger section of the Departures Lobby was closed for construction, and this remained in effect as of August announcements.

On August 11, all CLEAR security lanes in Terminal 3 closed, along with the pedestrian bridge and Garage F tunnel connecting to the Terminal 3 AirTrain Station.

San Francisco International Airport Post-Security Connectors Map 2025

From July 28 to October 17, 2025, the post-security connector linking Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 at San Francisco International Airport is closed nightly from 11:30 pm until 3:45 am, Monday night through Friday morning.

This closure is part of scheduled construction activity affecting passenger movement between the two terminals during the specified overnight hours, with the connector reopening outside of those restricted times.

From July 28 to October 17, 2025, the post-security walkway between Terminals 2 and 3 is closed nightly from 11:30 pm to 3:45 am, with alternate terminal routes in place.

On August 11, the pedestrian bridge and Garage F tunnel to the Terminal 3 AirTrain Station closed, also requiring alternate paths for passengers.

In addition, from August 25 through August 28, nightly from 11:00 pm to 6:00 am, AirTrain Red Line service to International Terminal A and Terminal 1 was suspended.

San Francisco International Airport Terminal Map 2024

In 2024, San Francisco International Airport marked three major changes. On June 17, the final phase of Harvey Milk Terminal 1 opened, introducing a new north check-in lobby, a mezzanine-level security checkpoint, and additional gates.

On August 20, construction began on the $2.6 billion Terminal 3 West Modernization project, upgrading the 650,000-square-foot western half with seismic retrofitting, expanded checkpoints, and new amenities.

On November 5, a temporary corridor opened to maintain passenger flow between Terminal 3 areas during construction.

In June 2024, San Francisco International Airport completed the final phase of Harvey Milk Terminal 1 at the B gates.

This expansion introduced a new north check-in lobby with automated bag drop used by Alaska and Delta, a mezzanine-level security checkpoint with automated screening lanes, and new automated exit lanes. Gates B3 and C1 opened to increase capacity, while five baggage claim carousels were added.

The phase also delivered a connecting walkway linking all terminals post-security, four new concessions, and the debut of the Club at SFO lounge.

In 2024, Southwest Airlines relocated its San Francisco operations to Terminal 2, moving check-in, bag check, and baggage services. A new post-security walkway opened in June, connecting Terminal 1 to Terminal 2.

Alaska Airlines launched an 11,000-square-foot lounge in Terminal 2 in July. Construction included installation of new hydrant fuel lines extending to the west end of Terminal 2, while occasional four-day closures occurred.

The “Flying on Display” exhibition opened in June at Terminal 2, Level 2 Gallery 2E.

In 2024, San Francisco International Airport began the $2.6 billion Terminal 3 West Modernization project, which includes a seismic retrofit, expanded security checkpoint, new passenger amenities, and 200,000 square feet of added concession space.

The western half of the Terminal 3 Arrivals Level near Baggage Claims 1–3 closed midyear to support construction. Interim connecting corridors opened in Terminal 3 to maintain passenger flow, and Chalo expanded into Boarding Area F with travel gifts and lifestyle items.

In 2024, San Francisco International Airport completed the final phase of Harvey Milk Terminal 1 on June 11, adding a new north check-in lobby, mezzanine-level security checkpoint, two new aircraft gates, four concessions, and a post-security walkway linking all terminals.

The Terminal 3 West Modernization project also began, affecting connector routes. To maintain access, an interim walkway opened November 5, ensuring post-security connectivity during construction.
